Creating those moments, those opportunities for children to
imagine what they could be is magical in its long term impact.
THIS IS WHY THE MARDY FISH CHILDREN’S FOUNDATION EXISTS.
MORE THAN TENNIS
In partnership with the School District of Indian River County, MFCF provides children opportunities to participate in fitness, nutritional and enrichment programs to prepare them to live healthy and productive lives.
We use sports as our textbook but teaching a child the skills to learn to reach beyond their grasp is the most important lesson we will ever deliver.
WHAT WE DO
INVESTING IN MFCF IS AN INVESTMENT IN A CHILD’S FUTURE, IN THEIR DREAMS AND IN THEIR ASPIRATIONS.
THE RETURNS MAY NOT BE REALIZED FOR YEARS, BUT
PLANTING JUST ONE SEED CAN SOMETIMES GROW INTO
THE MOST IMPORTANT DECISION
YOU WILL EVER MAKE.
THE MARDY FISH CHILDREN'S FOUNDATION PROVIDES A RICH CURRICULUM OF CREATIVE PROGRAMS.
These programs embrace and incorporate the principals outlined in Mardy's Six Healthy Habits as our core principals. Each of our programs are designed to balance youth development while enriching children's lives through physical activity and nutritional education. Our focus on Mardy's Six Healthy Habits as MFCF's core principals, which are endorsed by several leading Vero Beach pediatricians, lays a strong foundation to build the competencies necessary for the future of our two major programs: Kids on Court and Kids in Motion.
KIDS ON COURT
Kids on Court offers year round tennis programs to all K-8th grade students of Indian River County. Reaching more than 1000 children each year, Kids on Court teaches the fundamentals of tennis while instilling life building skills such as Mardy’s Six Healthy Habits, good sportsmanship and good listening. All programs are taught by USPTA certified tennis professionals. Equipment is provided.
AFTER SCHOOL TENNIS
After School Tennis is a 7 week program available to K-5th grade students of Indian River County. Using USTA 10 and Under teaching components and our Go Fish Rating System, After School Tennis is a great way for the students to learn to play tennis in a non-threatening, fun, safe environment on the campus of their own school. Our after school tennis program seeks to provide knowledge of healthy life habits, provide opportunities to create and strengthen friendships, and build children’s self-confidence and self-esteem on and off the court.
FRIDAY NIGHT FISH
Children ages 4-14 are invited to our monthly youth tennis mixer. FNF is focused on tennis games, fitness and fun. Children of all ability levels are invited to attend. This is a family atmosphere where parents and grandparents are welcome to watch the kids having fun on the courts!
SUMMER TENNIS CAMP
Mardy Fish Children’s Foundation Summer Tennis Camps provide an opportunity to grow in the game of tennis and the game of life. Camp is open to 4-12 year olds, all experience levels. Participating athletes will learn fitness, stroke development and match play all while building strong relationships and healthy habits.
MIDDLE SCHOOL CLUB TENNIS
6th-8th grade students of Indian River County are invited to participate in Middle School Club Tennis. Team building through practices and competitive match play, with reinforcement of the Six Healthy Habits will allow players to build knowledge and love of the game while developing character and self-confidence to become extraordinary student athletes.
PLAY DAYS AT THE BOULEVARD
Every player will have fun and be challenged in our red through green dot play day program. All After School Tennis participants are invited to attend our Play Days at The Boulevard free of charge. Children will have the opportunity to put their skills to the test in a non-threatening and friendly competitive tennis format. Middle School and High School-aged volunteers assist our tennis professionals to guide the children through modified tennis matches.
Rally Builder is a 3 week program open to all 5-12 year olds of any skill level (children grouped with like abilities for match play). Program includes 2 hours of weekly, guided on court match play with light instruction.
Team Fish is a group of children interested in representing the Mardy Fish Children’s Foundation in a variety of athletic, social and community building activities. Activities include 5K road races, walking in community parades, demo days and participating in various other community based activities. Team Fish provides children the opportunity to be a part of a special team with the ultimate goal of giving back to the community.
TEAM FISH AND JGPT (JUNIOR GRAND PRIX TENNIS)
Team Fish is a team of tennis playing children who represent the Mardy Fish Children’s Foundation while challenging their skills in Starter and Competitor Junior Grand Prix Tennis Events. The MFCF is working with our area Tennis Clubs and Communities who sponsor the Junior Grand Prix Tennis Events. These Starter events are tournaments that provide basic instruction to beginning tennis players who are able to keep a ball in play for a rally of at least 3. The children are rewarded for every point scored, for good sportsmanship, and for participation frequency when they register with the JGPT. This encourages the very beginning players who may not win games from being discouraged from the game. The Competitor events are designed to fit the more experienced player’s ability level. Red ball, Orange ball, and Green dot format are utilized as appropriate. Players must register with the Tournament Director for each specific JGPT event as these are played at a variety of area tennis clubs. FOR MORE INFORMATION, PLEASE GO TO JGPT.

"Tennis players scored higher in vigor, optimism and self-esteem while scoring lower in depression, anger, confusion, anxiety and tension than other athletes and non-athletes according to Dr. Joan Finn and colleagues at Southern Connecticut State University"
Jack L. Groppel, Ph.D. USTA.COM
Founded by Mardy Fish, the former # 7 tennis player in the World, the Mardy Fish Children's Foundation collaborated with Pelican Island Elementary School in the Fall of 2007 providing enrichment and tennis programs. These programs provided a safe environment for children to go and participate in such activities as music, dance, art and sports. The Foundation has since grown to 15 elementary schools and 4 middle schools currently serving over 2,500 children in K-8th Grade.
The Foundation is now stronger than ever, with the recruitment of new leadership, the addition of more volunteers and advisors; and a new, heightened commitment and partnership with schools, teachers, families and community. This enables the Foundation to teach children to make better choices, empowering them by encouraging physical fitness, emphasizing healthy eating habits, and explaining how to have a positive self-image.
